According to legend, in 1258, when King Tran Thai Tong turns 40, he ceded the throne to his son and became Taishang Huang (a retired emperor), after that, he returned to Vu Lam mountains (Ninh Hai Commune, Hoa Lu District) to led a religious life and set up a steering base to against the Yuan - Mongolia 2nd war (1285). Ms. Tran Thi Dung, the wife of Grand Master Tran Thu Do, followed the Tran court to come there and taught Van Lam villagers embroidery.
Since then, embroidery has increasingly developed. Ninh Van stone carving village is in Ninh Van Commune, Hoa Lu District, Ninh Binh Province. This village has a long history. Through the hands of many generations along with the up and down transformation of time, its culture still exists.
